The best time to visit Mazury is from March until September, being minded that the summer months are more expensive and crowded. I did not believe there were storks there until I saw them nesting in June, but they are gone by September. It is very easy to charter a yacht in the lake district once you have a skipper’s licence. If you are not a qualified sailor you can even hire a boat with a registered skipper. Yacht charter companies compete for business in all the towns and villages throughout Mazury such as Giżycko, Piękna Góra, Wilkasy, Ryn, Sztynort, Węgorzewo, Mikołajki, Ruciane-Nida and Pisz.
A four berth Tango 730 class costs on average of €50 a day to hire. These days with luxury yachts available to rent , depending on the season, if you need a skipper and how much style and comfort you want, charges can run to €150 a day.
For a smaller yacht hire company go to Krzyże and ask for the bosman, Jurek Fronczek, a jolly bearded Krakowian. Tell him Mirek Piecha sent you and he will fit you out.
At present the Polish złoty is about 3.27 to the euro and with ease of access with Aer Lingus and Ryanair a trip there offers very good value with eating and refreshments still very cheap by Irish standards.
